Volunteer Family Mentor Track

SESSION 1

In this introductory video, we discuss what a mentor is and is not. This training is foundational for you to have a successful mentoring experience.

This video equips you to understand the basics of poverty, key differences between those in poverty and the middle class, and introduces you to important terms.

SESSION 2

This video reveals the importance of self-care as you begin working with families who have experienced trauma. Self-Care is essential for each of us so that we can flourish as we seek to serve others.

This video walks you through how to make a call to the Nebraska Child Abuse/Neglect Hotline when you are concerned about the safety and well-being of a child.

In this video, we’ll look at some of the basic needs that families encounter, and give an overview of the available community resources they can use to meet those needs.

SESSION 3

The Mental Health Overview will help normalize mental health struggles and diagnoses as well as show how trauma impacts mental health. This training will help you set reasonable expectations as you serve families.

This final video looks at risk factors and warning signs to help you recognize and assess if someone is experiencing a mental health crisis that could lead to a suicide attempt.
